On posting parts of episode 2

Going to try something different with this next episode of Damn It, Monkey!... I#039;ll post a scene at a time instead of going for a full act before an update, as I did with episode 1.
Mostly I decided on this because Episode 2 is going to be a fair deal longer, I believe (act 1 alone is 6 more pages than act 1 of the first episode.) And that#039;s after I cut out some unnecessary scenes. I also suspect more regular updates will be received reasonably well, and I can still work "filler" into the episodes when it#039;s warranted in between acts, as well. Think the Kingston Toilets advertisement.

Aside from that, the first act is penciled and I#039;ve inked a few pages already. Expect some concrete details within a week or so!

Concept Art And More On Episode 2

Episode 2 is now being pencilled! I#039;ve fully written it, although I#039;m sure it#039;ll be tweaked a bit here and there. It#039;s actually a completely new story, as well -- Damn It, Monkey! in one form or another always began with the Martians being eaten. Now that that#039;s out of the way, some completely new content is coming. Timely content, somewhat, which wasn#039;t the intent but I#039;ll work with it.

I thought I#039;d share a couple pencillings of some concepts for Episode 2:

Stacy#039;s New Coat

Okay, I admit, this isn#039;t really huge to the story. It#039;s kind of a throwaway gag and not an obvious one at that. But the coat is pretty nice, yeah?

...and isn#039;t a bit odd to see her smile?

Some Nerds

These two nerds actually have a specific scene with Stacy while she wear#039;s her pretty new coat. Nerds play a big part of this episode, so here#039;s a couple of the more prominent ones in act 1.

You can actually see these and some more art on my instagram.

One final note, by episodes, I mean sitcom episodes. Not like chapters of a saga. If I meant that, you can guarantee that episode 2 would be completely about sand.

Finishing Up Episode 1

Long time, no see! I finally got the redesign of the site done, and more importantly all of Episode 1: I Like Martians is now up!

I#039;ve simplified and cleaned up the navigation a little, and I#039;ve also gone back and actually cleaned up, well, almost all of the pages before. So it would really be awesome if you just kind of read the entire thing again, start to finish. I crammed a couple of more jokes in as a bonus. I don#039;t promise they#039;re good jokes, but they#039;re there.

Now to get to work on Episode 2.

Of Episodes and Acts

One of the reasons I revived this was, upon reflecting on its last run, Damn It, Monkey! Just didn#039;t work the way I wanted it to. Ratboy works great as a serial, but this comic lost a lot as a serial. At its heart, it#039;s a parody, and the format needs retained as episodic in format.

Before rebooting it, I really deliberated on this one specific fact. How do I do a web comic that#039;s 30+ pages that need posted at a time? My schedule doesnt really allow me to churn these out as regularly as I#039;d like at this point. And so it occurred to me, why not post each episode in acts? I mean, any proper episode of something has three acts, and if I#039;ve done my job as a writer (I know I sometimes don#039;t quite hit that mark), then three acts it is.

Very soon - within a week or two (ideally! no promises) I#039;ll have act 1 of I Like Martians ready to go.

...No matter what Arby#039;s says about it.

Rebooting Is All The Rage

So, here#039;s what I#039;m doing -- rebooting this comic. Rebooting is all the rage today amongst the kids.
Some of you may remember from many years ago Damn It, Monkey! was a serial. Some of you may have actually even enjoyed it. Let#039;s face it, though; Damn It, Monkey! was never meant to be a serial. In entity, the whole thing is a parody of sitcoms; a vehicle for certain tropes, and all this just never worked out in serial format. I#039;ll leave that to Ratboy Is Dead because it works there, much better than it would here.

And, yes, the first episode is coming. Soon, hopefully. We#039;ll see, man.

Episode 1 Announced!

Monkey blows up the basement while working on a shrink ray. Rob finds the Martians to be irresistable, in only the way Rob can, and Billy Mays visits with an offer the family can easily refuse.

Episode I: I Like Martians (Act 1) is coming soon.
